Expanding Solids
Work in progress - Video installation - Loop
Expanding Solids is a single-channel video installation, where scale plays a crucial role in creating a physical sense of presence. What appears fixed begins to breathe and expand. The solid material conveys stability and reassurance, yet as it subtly shifts, perception starts to transform.
As a state of mind is fluid, trust is placed in the surrounding environment. When that environment is also in constant motion, this trust must continuously find a balance between psychological expectation and physical presence. The work exists within this tension, conditioning the viewer to uncertainty while gradually forming a new form of trust.
Expanding Solids explores the human perception of grotesque matter, positioning physics against psychology. The rocks are hand-sculpted and covered with sand mixtures & layered painting techniques. This emphasizes the material weight and tactility. Filmed in rotation and digitally re-composed, the forms undergo a continuous transformation, allowing control to loosen and new special and emotional possibilities emerge.
